Hello dear friends!
Once again, the spinning orbit of the Mullabrookian world has thwarted me from cyber time, but today it is a cold and rainy day, perfect for catching up on things at home! I thought I would start the day with my usual cuppa and peruse Maddy’s blog. And there was the photo of her kitchen sink she sent me a while ago.
Apparently, I had texted her back in answer: “How do you do a sinkful of dishes? One dish at a time.”
Always useful to be reminded of what you have said, in case you need to hear it yourself!
The sink is aptly named “Challenge”, and it got me to thinking. I looked over at my own kitchen sink to see if it too had a name. Alas, due to the teetering tower of dishes piled up I could not see for looking!

I must admit that it is difficult to find time to do the house chores, especially when one has many other things to do! Like search the beach for pieces of driftwood and sea-glass for my dream-catchers, or helping my good friend Marvin with his popular culture reviews for the local magazine. Or chatting to Mim and Nige for the Kindlounge segment on MBFM. And assisting Frank with public relations at the Mullet can certainly take up many hours. Sometimes it is also difficult to find time to meditate to calm the chaos of the busy mind.
This got me to thinking on this cold and dreary day. Perhaps doing the dishes can be a meditation in itself. And warm the hands at the same time! Performing a mundane chore can be a good time to practice calm thoughts and stay in the moment, as they say. Especially when you find a sharp knife in the bottom of the sinkful of dishes and jab yourself. Perhaps knives should be washed separately, methinks. Dish after dish, I began to wonder how long had it been since I had done the dishes? Time does get away from one. Did I get cross at myself for this neglect? No, I did not. I turned my frown upside down and thought about the challenge of doing the dishes as a productive meditation time! One dish at a time. And then, they were done.
With kindness,
Kelvin
